The Challenge

To Create an out-of-home campaign that not only inspires the Waterloo community but other communities around the country. We want people to join the movement against climate change and become voices for change. Our goal is to raise awareness, inspire action, and take meaningful steps toward a much more sustainable future. Let’s unite and stand with ClimateActionWR to make a real difference.

THE PROCESS

We started with two initial ideas, but it was the third concept that ultimately developed into our fully realized campaign. This idea came from a colleague, sparking a direction we hadn't considered before video games. It’s not often you see video games connected to environmental themes, but that’s what made it so unique and exciting.

Tharmiya and I jumped into brainstorming, and we quickly landed on the idea of using an 8-bit style. The retro gaming aesthetic offered a fun, nostalgic element that could appeal to a wide audience—bridging the gap between older generations who grew up with these games and younger audiences who appreciate their vintage appeal. By combining video game nostalgia with environmental messaging, we created a campaign that was both visually engaging and flat-out fun.
